SharePoint 2010 tools for developer


I am recommend for a SharePoint 2010 developer should have the following tools installed on their development machine.


Microsoft Tools
  • SharePoint 2010 Designer
  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SharePoint Explorer
  • Install SharePoint “Developer Edition”

Add extension to you development environment.

SharePoint Manager 2010 : The SharePoint Manager 2010 is a SharePoint object model explorer. It enables you to browse every site on the local farm and view every property. It also enables you to change the properties.

CKS - Development Tools Edition (Server) : The current 2.1 release includes the following features:
Activate selected features - Activate selected features via a new deployment step giving you granual control over feature activation.
Find package for SPI - Find out which package a selected SPI is contained within.
Quick Deploy GUID replaceable params - Quick deploy now supports GUID based replaceable params.
Quick deploy support for extended web applications - Quick deploy now supports extended web applications and will deploy to all zones per web application.
Quick Deploy fixes - Improvements to Quick Deploy when source control is used. Read only files not locked during Quick Deploy.

CKS - Development Tools Edition (Foundation) : This is for SharePoint Foundation server.

WSP Builder : You can either download the CSK -Development tool or WSP Builder both having the same features but one of the best which I like, WSP builder 2010 work both on 2007 and 2010.

Notepad++ : Notepad++: a free source code editor.

CMAL Query Builder : The tool will help you build, test and execute your CAML Queries. Detailed documentation is included in this document. This version of the tool only let you build CAML queries for execution against lists.

SharePoint Log Viewer : SharePoing Log Viewer is a Windows application for reading and filtering Microsoft SharePoint ULS Logs.
