SharePoint: Application pool XXX has been disabled. Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) encountered a failure when it started a worker process to serve the application pool.

Web front end Error 503 Service Unavailable

This error comes when your Password retention policy kicks in then services that running using service account stop working  or the password has been changed of one of your service account that currently running/used in SharePoint Application pool. You will see the following error message to your event logs. To read more about the service account.



The solution of this problem you need to reconfigure the same identity pool account.. Following steps.

  1. Open IIS navigate to the server application pool.
  2. Select application pool .right click on it click to the advance settings option.
  3. Under process model group select identity click the  ... button.
  4. Choose custom account option select set.
  5. enter the username and password
  6. click OK
